What Is a Good ROAS for Facebook Ads in Canada? (2026 Benchmarks)

One of the most common questions ecommerce brands ask when they start running Facebook Ads is: what ROAS should I actually be targeting? And when they look at their current results, they ask a follow-up: is this good, or should I be worried?

The honest answer is that ROAS benchmarks are more nuanced than most guides suggest. A 3x ROAS can be excellent for one brand and terrible for another, depending on margins. This guide gives you the real benchmarks for Facebook Ads ROAS in Canada in 2026, and more importantly, how to calculate the right target for your specific business.

What is ROAS and why does it matter

ROAS stands for Return on Ad Spend. It is calculated as revenue from ads divided by ad spend. If you spend $1,000 on Meta Ads and generate $4,000 in revenue, your ROAS is 4x. ROAS matters because it is the most direct measure of whether your ad spend is generating enough revenue to justify itself. But ROAS alone does not tell you whether you are actually profitable. A 4x ROAS on a product with 20% gross margins is losing money. A 2x ROAS on a product with 70% gross margins can be highly profitable. This is why understanding your break-even ROAS is more important than chasing a benchmark number.

How to calculate your break-even ROAS

Your break-even ROAS is the minimum return you need to cover the cost of your product and your ad spend, with zero profit. The formula is: break-even ROAS = 1 divided by gross margin.

    • Gross margin 25%: break-even ROAS is 4x
    • Gross margin 40%: break-even ROAS is 2.5x
    • Gross margin 50%: break-even ROAS is 2x
    • Gross margin 60%: break-even ROAS is 1.67x
    • Gross margin 70%: break-even ROAS is 1.43x

Any ROAS above your break-even is profitable on an ad spend basis. Your real target ROAS should be meaningfully above break-even to cover overhead, fulfilment, and other business costs. A common target is break-even ROAS multiplied by 1.5 to 2x.

Facebook Ads ROAS benchmarks by industry in Canada

Fashion and apparel: 2.5x to 5x. Fashion brands often have higher gross margins (50% to 70%), which means they can be profitable at lower ROAS. However, they also face high creative fatigue and seasonal demand swings that affect account performance.

Beauty and skincare: 3x to 6x. One of the best performing categories on Meta Ads due to strong visual creative, high repeat purchase rates, and emotionally driven buying decisions. Well-run beauty accounts often exceed 6x ROAS.

Home goods and furniture: 2x to 4x. Higher average order values mean fewer conversions are needed to achieve strong ROAS, but longer consideration cycles mean retargeting plays a bigger role than in impulse-purchase categories.

Health and supplements: 3x to 5x. Strong category on Meta, but increasingly competitive. Subscription models improve lifetime value and make lower initial ROAS sustainable.

Electronics and tech accessories: 2x to 3.5x. Lower margins and high competition keep ROAS in this range for most brands. Google Shopping often outperforms Meta for electronics due to higher search intent.

Food and beverage: 3x to 6x. Subscription and consumable products perform well on Meta due to the repeat purchase model. Initial ROAS may be lower but lifetime value makes the economics strong.

What ROAS do Canadian Meta Ads agencies target

Most reputable Meta Ads agencies in Canada target a 3x to 6x ROAS for ecommerce clients, with the exact target set based on each brand's margin profile rather than a one-size-fits-all benchmark. At Dot Design Media, our ecommerce clients average 5 to 6x ROAS across Meta Ads campaigns. We calculate each client's break-even ROAS before setting targets, so scaling decisions are grounded in actual profitability rather than vanity metrics.

    ROAS benchmarks by spend level

Under $3,000 per month: Expect more volatility. With limited budget, the algorithm has less data to optimise against. Focus on retargeting first and cold audiences second at this spend level.

$3,000 to $15,000 per month: This is the sweet spot where the Meta algorithm has enough data to work effectively. Consistent ROAS in the 3x to 6x range is achievable with proper campaign structure and strong creative.

$15,000 to $50,000 per month: At scale, maintaining ROAS requires constant creative refreshing and audience expansion. Many brands see ROAS compress slightly as they scale because they exhaust their warm audiences and need to go broader with cold targeting.

Signs your ROAS is being understated

Meta Ads ROAS is often understated due to attribution limitations. Since Apple's iOS 14 update, Meta cannot track all conversions that happen after someone clicks an ad, especially on Safari and across devices. The actual revenue impact of your Meta Ads is likely higher than what Meta reports by 15% to 30% in most accounts. Set up the Meta Conversions API in addition to the pixel to recover as much attribution as possible.

    The bottom line

A good ROAS for Facebook Ads in Canada is one that exceeds your break-even point by enough to cover your full business costs and leave a meaningful profit margin. For most ecommerce brands, that means targeting 3x to 5x ROAS, with higher targets for low-margin products and lower targets acceptable for high-margin products.

Calculate your break-even ROAS first. Then set a realistic target based on your margin. Then use that target to evaluate whether your current Meta Ads account is performing or underperforming, rather than comparing to an industry average that may not apply to your business model.
